B-1B Remove Before Flight

The B-1 Lancer is one of the most extreme bomber designs ever built. Its variable-sweep wings let it change shape in flight, spreading them wide for efficiency and sweeping them back to push past Mach 1. Originally designed during the Cold War to penetrate Soviet air defenses at very low altitude, it combined speed, range and a huge payload in a single aircraft.

What makes it remarkable is how much it can carry. The B-1 can deliver the largest conventional payload of any U.S. bomber while still flying faster than the speed of sound. Four powerful engines, a long, blended fuselage and wings that move in flight give it a silhouette that looks almost unreal in the air. Decades after its first flight, it remains one of the most capable strike platforms ever built.
