In 2013, an F-22 Raptor pilot showcased the unmatched capabilities of the fifth-generation fighter in a dramatic encounter with two Iranian F-4 Phantom jets. The Iranian pilots, escorting a U.S.-flagged MQ-1 Predator drone they believed to be unprotected, were unaware that an F-22 had stealthily positioned itself nearby.
Flying undetected, the Raptor pilot maneuvered underneath the Phantoms to inspect their armaments before pulling up alongside one of the jets. The sudden and unexpected appearance of the F-22 shocked the Iranian pilots, who had no idea they were being monitored. The Raptor pilot then calmly radioed the Phantoms with the infamous line, “You really oughta go home.” Startled and outmatched, the Iranian jets quickly retreated.
